Is your infant or toddler struggling to communicate or connect?
You're in the right place.
The early years are an important time for communication development. At Diverse Learners, we support young children from birth to 3 years who may be late to talk, have difficulty communicating their wants and needs, or are developing communication in a way that looks different from their peers.
Who Can Benefit?
Speech therapy for late talking and early communication may be helpful if your child:
- Is anywhere from birth to 3 years of age and you have concerns about how they're developing communication (sounds, gestures and words) and interaction/play skills
- Is babbling or talking less than expected for their age or is a late talker
- Has difficulty understanding language in familiar routines
- Is frustrated when trying to communicate
- Is not yet using words, gestures, or other forms of communication consistently
- Has difficulty engaging or communicating during play
- Communicates differently from other children their age
- Is autistic or neurodivergent and would benefit from support with communication, engagement, and connection
- Has skills they are using at home but is having difficulty using them across different people or settings
You don’t need to wait for a diagnosis or be certain that something is wrong. If you have concerns about your child’s communication development, we can help you understand what you’re seeing and determine whether support may be beneficial.

Why Play, Routines and Parent Involvement?
For young children, play and routines are where learning happens.
Play creates natural opportunities for children to communicate, take turns, share attention, problem-solve, and connect with others.
Everyday routines—getting dressed, eating, bath time, going outside, or reading a book—provide repeated opportunities to practice communication in meaningful situations.
Parents are their child’s most important communication partners. Rather than relying only on weekly therapy sessions, we work alongside parents to help them recognize communication opportunities and use strategies that already exist within their daily interactions.
Our Approach to Late Talkers & Early Communication Skills
These services are informed by advanced training in Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® and DIR®/Floortime™.
Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® is a parent-focused approach for supporting young children with language delays. It teaches parents practical strategies for turning everyday interactions and routines into opportunities for communication and language development.
DIR®/Floortime™ is a relationship-based, developmental approach that places connection and engagement at the centre of learning. For autistic and other neurodivergent children, Floortime helps parents understand and respond to their child’s unique communication style, interests, and developmental profile. Through shared play and meaningful interaction, we support the development of engagement, communication, connection, and attunement while respecting the child’s individual way of relating to the world.
Supporting communication beyond the therapy session
Whether we work with your family in person or virtually, our goal is the same: to give you practical tools that become part of your everyday life, not another thing on your to-do list.
We want you to feel confident understanding your child’s communication, recognizing their strengths, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection and communication every day.
